Review: Candyman – Guaranteed to Keep You Up All Night

Until about 2 years ago, I had somehow been sheltered from the absolute masterpiece that is Candyman

My husband was shocked when I told him this revelation. I’m the horror movie freak and I had missed Candyman

It’s a sin. I now know that. I had underestimated an absolute horror gem.

Candyman focuses on Helen Lyle ( Virginia Madsen), a graduate student who has a deep interest in urban legends. She and fellow student Bernadette decide to take a deep dive into the urban legend of Candyman.

Similar to the urban legend Bloody Mary, Candyman can supposedly be summoned by speaking his name several times in a mirror. I’m not sure about you, but that is one challenge I would never accept. No chanting names into a mirror for me.

Starring the legendary Tony Todd, this one isn’t for the weak hearted or horror movie first-timers. Todd is legendary for a reason – he takes on a role and plays it completely. He gets under your skin and gives you nightmares. He is quite literally, Perfect. He is, Candyman.

I really thought that there was no way that a fictional movie could rattle me so easily. Honestly, nothing really had since The Exorcist. Candyman changed all of that. Now, I measure movies by, “How scary is it compared to Candyman.

The next time you need something truly horrifying, give this one a try. It will stay with you forever and the pure terror that only Tony Todd can inflict is addicting.
